ARTEL is a group of professional artists who collaborate to exhibit their work whilst establishing a dynamic community. Working in the South Downs area, each artist has developed a unique and informed practice. The artwork from this covers a rich and diverse range of subjects and media shared through an annual show in Chichester at the Oxmarket Contemporary gallery.

Title A

Carol's work often draws on land, sea or skyscapes familiar to her.  Her work this year is based on observations of the early spring skies, seen from her home and visits to the South Downs.  Using a combination of hastily taken photographs and her memory, because skies are fleeting things, she draws on her base fabric and then begins to stitch. She says her sewing machine and the many different threads that surround her in her studio somehow take over! She has tried to reflect aspects of these memories and ideas in these stitched textiles.

B.A (Hons) Textile Art, Goldsmiths School of Art, London University. Hon. Fellow, Society of Designer Craftsmen.
Carol became Head of the Art department at Chichester University before leaving, in order to concentrate on making her own work. She has taught widely throughout the UK and also in the USA, New Zealand, France and Portugal. Her work has been exhibited in many galleries and exhibitions. She is represented by Primavera Gallery in Cambridge.
