Maureen Brigden B.A Hons, Fine Art
mixed-media
35cm x 35cm
Title “Borderline”
For Artel’s latest exhibition ‘The Space Between’, Maureen explores the boundaries, divisions and ownership that we as temporary inhabitants on earth impose on ourselves and others.
Maureen has a passion for clay and a fascination with the material remains of our human history, the chosen themes for her work reflect local history and wider political and cultural events.
She works instinctively using different clays and sometimes other medium to endeavour to release the narrative suggested with the material.
The process of hand-building and firing her sculptures renders the work vulnerable, capable of sagging, or at worst, collapsing. This then becomes part of the work. Often the work has imperfections, drawing parallels with the human condition.
Maureen’s work was recently selected for the Royal Academy Summer exhibition and she was a previous winner of the Sculpture prize for the National Society of Printers, Painters and Sculptors.
