ARTEL is a group of professional artists who collaborate to exhibit their work whilst establishing a dynamic community. Working in the South Downs area, each artist has developed a unique and informed practice. The artwork from this covers a rich and diverse range of subjects and media shared through an annual show in Chichester at the Oxmarket Contemporary gallery.

Title

EDGES

The sea has been a part of my life since a child growing up in Blackpool ….. the daily bus trip to school, playing on the beach in the holidays……  air and life were full of its sound and breezes.

For this exhibition I have chosen work from several series which relate to sea edges. They are based on responses to locally familiar Chichester Harbour, field trips to Wales and the South Downs Seven Sisters.

Mostly working in oils, the series Onomatopoeia uses a restricted palette whilst newer paintings use glazes and newsprint.  All explore my particular interest in sounds, rhythms and atmosphere whilst reflecting on the human condition.

Fishbourne Creek and the Harbour beyond, is now on my doorstep and has been a fruitful source of inspiration for many years, as shown in my browser, books and cards.
