2025 - THE SPACE BETWEEN
Oxmarket Contemporary Gallery
30 Sept - 12 October 2025
New work was created within the context of the artists ongoing practice that also considered this theme. Research resulted in final pieces that were provocative, playful, and profound, in drawing, sculpture, and painting.Lorraine Molins B.A (Hons) Fine Art, ATC
Title A
The large scale abstract paintings are inspired by space, sky, weather, movement, landscape, buildings with scale and atmosphere giving the feeling of being small against a sea of colour. Lorraine has worked on diptychs, triptychs and quadriptychs, to highlight the way our eyes don’t just stay still but we look from one thing to the next.
Lorraine’s recent paintings ‘Icy Winter Swirl’ & ‘Icy Winter Looking Through’ have been inspired by the colours and mist of winter weather, as well as movement and looking through into the space. ‘Journey 2’, is a wide, horizontal format painting which reflects movement and looking across the painting from one side to the other, as in a landscape.
“I'm fascinated by the way our eyes move across a canvas which has led me to work in large landscape format; a recent inspiration has been seeing Monet’s huge Water Lilies once again in the Orangerie in Paris.”
Lorraine Molins is an abstract painter who studied at Chelsea School of Art and Goldsmiths College, University of London. She received an Arts Council Award, was one of the original Wapping Artists, and has exhibited widely in London, Paris and Australia with several paintings in private collections. Lorraine works in her studio in Art Space, Portsmouth.
