ARTEL is a group of professional artists who collaborate to exhibit their work whilst establishing a dynamic community. Working in the South Downs area, each artist has developed a unique and informed practice. Charm of... The Beloved; Weaving; Faith; Receiving; Truth
Wood, gold leaf, chalk

“Forests are interconnected systems rich with life and myth, this work invites a more enchanted way of seeing, transforming the ordinary into something magical”.

On ritual woodland walks, identity and defences are shed like a cloak and spirit invited to lead. Bits of wood dropped by foresters or trees are collected, images gathered in drawings and dreams. The walks were transcendent, like Inanna and Ereshkigal, full of loss and longing, each returning a truth, a witness, and a gift.
The wood pieces were stripped and burned, then gilded with gold (symbol of purity) to create symbolic forms, charms.

The paintings are dream journeys from a research walk in a pine wood (since cut and burned to prevent pine beetle). They tell primal stories drawing on personal and collective mythologies which became revealed through the walking and the making of the work.

Trained at University of Portsmouth and Newlyn School of Art, Tiffany has exhibited nationally since 2006 whilst working part-time in arts education as a lecturer, course leader, and tutor (University of Portsmouth; West Dean College). She has also studied spiritual psychology and shamanic practices, leading soulful creative nature connection workshops.
